Mission Style furniture is a timeless classic, and for good reason. There's nothing quite like the simple yet sophisticated look of mission-style furnishings that exude both comfort and style. At the beginning of the 20th century, a new kind of style emerged from the evolving Arts & Crafts movement - weaving together elements from English, Spanish, and early American craftsman traditions. This was the Mission Style, popularized by Stickley brothers, Gustav, Leopold, John George, Albert, and Charles. The Stickley brothers created furniture following strict construction guidelines to ensure each item was built to last and remain as true to their design vision as possible. From Mission dining tables and chairs to beds and dressers, virtually every piece was crafted with mortise-and-tenon joints, reinforced pins, and meticulously shaped detailing. Today, the same craftsmanship is evident in just about every item that comes out of Stickley's factories, a testament to their commitment to fine quality furniture production. Each piece is handmade with sturdy hardwood segments that are painstakingly assembled using wood glue or dowels as reinforcement for extra strength. To finish it off, all available pieces are generally hand-finished using an oil/stain mixture designed to protect the underlying wood from wear and tear over time. Mission Style furniture remains an iconic favorite among collectors around the world, one that will always evoke memories of a timeless era in American craftsmanship thanks in part to its enduring popularity brought on by none other than Stickley!
